Community Involvement (2014)

2014 Big Heart Brigade

Big Heart Brigade

On November 23, 2014, a group of CDL employees and their family members volunteered with the Big Heart Brigade to help prepare meals for those in need.  The Big Heart Brigade’s mission is “to enrich the lives of those in need by providing a holiday meal or some much needed support to members of our community.”

This year, members of our team helped pack sides of cranberry sauce and pulled meat from 60 freshly cooked turkeys.  We had a great time working alongside the other volunteers who came from all over Palm Beach County to give back to the community.  With our help, the Big Heart Brigade was able to provide about 75,000 Thanksgiving meals to Palm Beach County residents.

We look forward to helping the Big Heart Brigade again next year!

2014 Light the Night Walk

LTN Walk 2014

On November 14, 2014, CDL employees took to the streets of Downtown West Palm Beach to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) fight against blood cancer.  The Light the Night Walk is a fundraising campaign of LLS which brings together families and communities to honor blood cancer survivors, as well as those lost to the diseases, and shine a light on the importance of finding cures and providing access to treatments for blood cancer patients.

We started off the fundraising by having a “Penny Wars” contest in the office.  Over the course of 2 weeks, 10 teams participated, with other employees adding to the donations.  Our contest alone helped raise over $1,800.

The Light the Night Walk hits close to home for a few members of our firm, and we are proud to say that our in-house contest and other fundraising efforts raised over $5,000 for  the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society this year.

2014 Crohn’s and Colitis Walk

CCFFA Walk 2014

On Saturday, November 8, 2014, CDL participated in the Take Steps for Crohn’s & Colitis walk. The Take Steps walk is a national event with the ultimate goal of raising as much money as possible for the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America to help find cures for these painful and medically incurable illnesses that attack the digestive system.

The event took place in City Place in West Palm Beach, FL. It started out with some festivities that people of all ages enjoyed and concluded with a leisurely walk. We had an amazing turnout of 52 employees and their family members. Our fundraising efforts really paid off this year, and we were able to proudly donate over $45,000 to the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America.

This is a major community event for our firm. We have participated in the Take Steps walk for the past 4 years and have raised upwards of $150,000!

2014 Heart Walk

On September 27, 2014, CDL employees and their families participated in the American Heart Association Heart Walk.  The Heart Walk is the premier event for raising funds to save lives from this country’s No. 1 and No. 4 killers – heart disease and stroke.  Designed to promote physical activity and heart-healthy living, the Heart Walk creates an environment that’s fun and rewarding for the entire family.

CDL has supported the American Heart Association since 2009 and has continually raised a significant amount of money for a cause that helps our own community.  This year, CDL’s team raised $10,300.

Beach Cleanup

Beach Cleanup - resizeFriends of Jupiter Beach organizes beach cleanups the first Saturday of every month.  CDL employees, along with their families, volunteered on August 2, 2014 and September 6, 2014.

On average, volunteers help remove an estimated 490 pounds of garbage during these cleanups every month! This was a great opportunity for us to make a positive impact on the environment.  In just 2 hours at the first event, we were able to fill and discard 7 bags of garbage.

Quantum House

We are proud to announce that we have added Quantum House to our list of charitable organizations!

On July 28, 2014, we held our first event at Quantum House. Six employees, including one of our Shareholders, were “chefs for a day” and provided a delicious BBQ dinner for 30 Quantum House family members and children who are currently housed there for extended medical treatment.

Because our first event was such a success, we went back on August 13, 2014 with 5 employees, including one of our Shareholders, and prepared a Mexican-themed dinner for the 30 Quantum House family members. The smiles and gratitude from the families at Quantum House brought us so much joy. We hope to help out with another dinner soon!

Quantum House is a caring and supportive home that lessens the burden for families whose children are receiving treatment in Palm Beach County for serious illnesses and medical conditions. Since opening their doors in May 2001, they continue to be where “hope has a home” for more than 500 family members each year. Quantum House is the only hospital hospitality house serving children and their families between Fort Lauderdale and Orlando, Florida. Not only do they help families in Florida, they have also assisted families from every state and nearly two dozen countries around the world.

Place of Hope

On July 19, 2014, 24 CDL employees and their families visited Place of Hope. We donated over $1,000 worth of school supplies, including a new backpack for each of the 48 children. In addition, we presented them with over $2,000 to help buy school uniforms.

Not only did we help provide school supplies and money for school uniforms, we also spent some quality time with the kids. We all had a great time putting together (and eating) ice cream sundaes and making “survival” bracelets.

Since our first event with Place of Hope in January 2012, not only do we get to experience the satisfaction of helping children in need with school supplies and money for uniforms, but we get to enjoy spending time with the children eating ice cream, making crafts and just getting to know them. Helping the children at Place of Hope is a rewarding experience.

Place of Hope is dedicated to providing a stable and loving family environment for hurting children and their families. It is a state-licensed child welfare organization that provides family-style foster care, family outreach intervention, maternity care, transitional housing and support service, adoption, and other services that cater to helping children and families in need.
